New Vanguards – Apr to Sept 2011 – a preview review

So, I have been really looking hard for the new Vanguards to be released from April 2011 to September 2011, and with a bit of luck, have got some images for the models.

So here are my thoughts on the releases:

Ford Granada MkII – new casting

I am really impressed by this model – the proportions look good, and especially with the road version they seem to have accurately captured those wheels, which really defined the 2.8i Ghia models at the time. Over time, I can see the Ghia X Executive version being released with front fog lights, and also the 2.5D model, which was the basis for the taxi version. Not how easy to do, but a German Polizei version with LHD would also be a great addition along with Metropolitan Police livery.

Ford Fiesta Mk1 – new casting

yup, I like this one – I have a fond liking for this car, as I passed my driving test in one, and it as rather quick and nimble in ‘L’ trim (to a degree!). From the Pre-pro, the model looks good – although I would say that the model looks like it is in ‘GL’ trim, as the bumpers have overriders and the interior has headrests, something which was missing on the ‘L’ trim version.

XR2 looks good as well, and it will be interesting to compare it against the Minichamps version.

VW Golf MkII – new casting

hmmm….jury is out. I was expecting this casting to adorn those infamous Pirelli wheels, but instead they look like some hybrid minilites……snot sure about that, so it will have to be a look in the flesh to see how it is executed in person.

However, I am pleased with the LHD version with the correct Wolfsburg plates, which are famed for appearing in the VW stills for publicity.

One to be reviewed, and if good, then it will be a purchase.

Highlights:

Ford Cortina MkIV – Strato Silver – PNO 548 R

I am really looking forward to this one. From the photos, it can be seen that the wheels are accurately re-created for the 2.0 Ghia trim, which is spot. AND even more interesting is that this model is based on the actual car used in ‘The Sweeney’ by Regan in Season 4. A sly marketing ploy, but not making it an actual character car, to avoid marketing and royalties, so just presented as one of the range.

I am now hoping that the LHD version will be done as well as the Ford Taunus Serie II. AND what would be a great model would be the black 2.3 Ghia version used in the Bond film ‘The Spy who loved me’. Good potential here, and I look forward to adding this one to the 1/43 garage.

MGB

Yup, this is a defo purchase, especially with those BL Cloverleaf wheels. After all, your mother wouldn’t like it.

For the other models……well, they are there, of no great appeal to me, as I have either got them already in a different colour scheme, or simply do not appeal.

In summary, this is a good set of models to look forward to, and there will certainly be some purchases here.
