If only Ford still has this as a distinguished this division…….

I am a bit of a fan of the MkII RS Escorts – a lot is attributed to Doyle flying around in his Pinto MkII RS2000 in The Professionals.

Australia have got the right idea – the XR moniker is kept alive on the Falcon (XR6 & 8), Focus (XR5) and Fiesta (XR4), so a fleet of sports models.

I have never been convinced about the UK ‘ST’ moniker – just seems like a poor man’s XR and does not cut it for me, whereas the RS just gives a sense of power, speed and racing heritage. I would very much like to see this come back throughout the range where I am sure that properly done Ford’s would fly out of the showrooms (unlike the tepid MkV Escort RS2000 which was a bit of a damp squib).

And just to show how evocative that RS Badge is below is an ad from the 1970s for the RS Escorts – makes ya wanna own one!

  1. For the life of me I really cannot understand why Ford have not made a retro car like VW-BMW etc etc.The Mk1 or Mk11 Escort or a Capri is crying out for it to be done.Ford sold bloody thousands of Escorts in one form or another.

As regards the ST badge it suits the Fiesta and Transit neither of which are slow.
