So Shabbir Malik – the current MB Ambassador – has provided some pictures for the new models of the 1-120 range.
I will not put the gloss of words that he/Mattel have come up with on this blog and below are my own thoughts:
Seagrave Fire Engine.
I have to say a lovely casting – but I think that this is only going to sell in the US. Children outside this market are not going to relate to it as this is not a Fire Engine they can relate to.
Take for example Siku – all their fire engines are based on the Mercedes Actros / Sprinter Van – real vehicles that are seen on the roads.
It has been a very long time since there was a motorcycle in the range of 1-120, but I really welcome this casting. it is really good to see the variation on casting and adds some diversity. Well done Mattel.
Oh God….this is f**kiing rubbish – looks like a security van. But it will cost Mattel hardly anything to produce as it is all plastic. (well 90%). Not impressed and a rather dumb inclusion.
The final models below are pre-pro’s –
I don’t like the graphics at all – the VE Ute seems to have lost the detailing at the front. And I am sure that the models would have been just fine in a normal colour scheme. But this is more evidence that Mattel are moving the line away from the collector to children. Which at the end of the day is fair play. It is collectors and their demands that have made this toy more than it should be.
