Well, this was not really the start that I thin we wanted at the Boleyn for the final season.
The first half was pretty flat – a lack of chances and Leics City proved they were clinical in the finish with two excellent goals that made it 2-0 before half time.
You could sense that the atmosphere was tense, such is the expectation to win at home, and TBH there was a little lack of firepower up front – which just goes to show you how much we need a proven goalscorer with the continued absence of Andy Carroll.
Should we have had a penalty? Clearly Kasper Schmeichel stuck an arm out at Sahko and brought him down – Antony Taylor did not have a good day.
So first half there was not really much to write home back, but enter the second, and we could have very well come away with a draw. For me, the outstanding player at the moment within the side is Payet. His goal was top drawer and absolute quality and you can see how highly rated he is. I hope that he will be the signing of the season and he went straight into my FL side for this year.
That should have been the platform to get some more – and we went close. Sahko – whose pre-season was not that bad – is having a bit of a quiet time – perhaps the allegations of arrest and assault are building some pressure on him – just not as sharp as I am used to seeing.
I am annoyed that with all the pressure in the second half, we could not make it count. And with the Adrian sending off for a high challenge on Vardy, that could be us screwed for the three games possibly.
The team needs to build on the excellent start we did against the Arsenal and buuild on that – a win today would have meant that we were rubbing shoulders with the likes of City and Utd in the top half of the table,
But despite one win, one loss, we are still mid table and above the likes of Spuds, Chelsea and ARSEnal at the moment.
But I expect more. I really do. Again Bournemouth next Sat, I expect no less than three points. Anything else and I will be calling for Slaven’s head.
Does it also bode that City are going to win the league – what say Gary Lineker?
