I won’t really look at the League Cup loss against Leics City midweek – TBH, I was travelling back from a business trip and simply saw the result. I have not seen any of the highlights, but to lose 2-1 with 4 mins to go within extra time was a bit gutting. And it was not as if Bilic played a poor side either, with Carroll getting an hour under his belt.
Slaven wanted to win the game and progress, but not this year – maybe a blessing in disguise, I was not that fussed. We continue.
Saturday’s home game was one I wanted to attend but never managed to do so. I mean I could have, but timing was a bit naff.
Anyway, watching the game was not easy by a long shot. Once the first goal went in for Norwich via a horrible cross ball by Noble – very unlike him – Tomkins had no chance of getting and bsacially gifted Norwich the first goal.
It was a relief to see Sahko get the equaliser. Relief. Our neighbour who is a Norwich fan predicted a draw, so I was happy with this.
But up pops Nathan Redmond. Mixed joy as he is in the old FL team, but annoyed that he scored. It was a beaut of a goal, but one that we should have never given Norwich the chance to have a go at all. Nerves possibly, but coming towards the end of the game we should have dealt better with all play within our area.
I was actually resigned to the fact that we were going to loose at home once again and if I was at the game, I would have headed for the Tube station exit on 90 mins and not stayed for the extra time.
But another mate always told me never leave the ground until the ref blows the whistle. And up pops up Kouyate again with a header from yet another assist from Payet. I was pleased with the little bit of grit towards the end – under BFS, we would have given up I think. But such is the motion now with the players, their belief means that we can achieve and we ground out this result.
Job done – whistle blows.
Relived is the word to use at the moment. And after that first away defeat of the season, this was very much welcome. For the fact that we are third (as of 26/09/15) and it still builds on the momentum we gained against City last week.
Soon-dar-laand next…………probably get well and truly beat in that one.
Fortunes always hiding…………………
