As life dictates this did not happen. A jaunt to Germany was needed and my neighbour was unable to pop up.
As I put the game on, I wish I didn’t – 1-0 to one of the Premier League’s relegation threatened sides. It was not good to see that scoreline as soon as I tuned in. Watching the highlights on MOTD, Antonio gave the ball away to Robby Brady who finished very well. It was made a little worse when the second goal went in after some scrappy defending
Victor Moses does extremely well pelting half down the pitch to see his effort rebound, with Payet closing in as well. And duly Payet gets his goal by picking up the failed clearance. Reported to have signed a new contract worth £125k a week – yup, more than Andy Carroll – whilst he is revered, he also needs to show his worth, and he did. 2-1, and there was something in the game. Then enter Mark Noble and a thunderous drive hammered in which was just unstoppable from a Payet lay back. From being 2-0 down, we haul it back to 2-2 and could have easily won the game as well – as could have Norwich. What that man needs to do to get an England Cap is beyond me.
I was tempted to switch the TV at 2-0. But this season, there just seems to be some manner of galvanisation of the side and although it is not a win, the draw is as good as one. Add to the fact the FA Cup reply that went to 120+ minutes. This was a gritty performance, one which gets us the magical 40 points and keeps us in the top half of the Premier League.
I think it safe to assume that it is near on impossible to get relegated this season. Relief.
