Breaking Bad was a series of excellence with a gripping storyline. I basically watched it back to back over 2-3 months and very little else. I am also trying to do the same with The Walking Dead as well, but six series in it is proving hard going.
Anyway, one of the cars to feature on Breaking Bad was a SRT-8 Challenger.
Whilst I have two models from the Mattel stable, I need one for the Garage. And GL provide the goods. Now with GL models, I am simply after the car. I don’t really care about the packaging at all, that just gets binned and it is near impossible to store as it is a sealed blister and a bitch to open. So thus it is opened, photographed and displayed. Additionally, I am not that bothered that the car is based on the one from Breaking Bad – it was a SRT-8 Challenger I wanted and with the iconic red paint scheme once again the requirements were met.
As with GL’s they are right heavy buggers but this is not a bad thing. In the world of Mattel plastic cost cutting GL define what is meant by an actual diecast. Full metal base plate with chassis detail. Lovely stuff. Opening bonnet – something that features within Majorette but devoid of others – this casting has it. Finely detailed as well with accents on all sides of the model. And let us not forget the rubber tyres on the rims.
The only flaw with the model is the interior, which looks clunky rather than refined in the way of a TLV. Annoying as it marks down the car, but as this one is on display, I pay not that much attention. I have mused before that Americana is few and far between within the Garage, but I hope to make in-roads with a select few – and this 1/64 GL Challenger is a very good start.
