I have been meaning to write about this model for ages. I had recently mused about the quite excellent Oversteer offering of the Toyota GT86 – a new standard being set within the 1/64 realm and an immediate entry into the Garage. Superb.
It is often overlooked that Kyosho still do some cracking 1/64 models as well. But their interpretation of the GT86 falls very much short of the mark. It comes from the 3-pack celebrating the AE86/GT86 incarnations by Toyota. I will get to the AE86’s in a couple of musings a little further down the line.
Where the Oversteer model is nimble and graceful, this Kyosho offering feels just fat and bloated. A clunky stodge that does not really capture the agility of the GT86. The wheels look wrong, the stance is weighted, it just doesn’t feel right at all. it is a huge disappointment when it could have been a lot, lot better. I made the mistake of getting a Kyosho Bentley Flying Spur which I was totally underwhelmed with and this casting mirrors that. Some may be happy with this addition, but this is just a flop and will not be gracing the Garage at any stage in the future.
The only saving grace is that – as I have mentioned above – it comes within a 3-pack of 1/64 and both of them are AE86’s……..which is good news. Musings to follow shortly on those two.
