European cars are distinctly lacking within the Garage of late. Not so much for the 1/43 scale but more for 1/64. Whilst I have mused about models such as the Minichamps Bentley(s) and Porsche(s), these are few and far between but luckily Tomica come up with some much welcome relief in this department.
I have always been a bit of a fan of the MkII Golf, more so than the bloated MkVII that we have these days. Clean, boxy and German, this was THE original GTi – a hot hatch for the masses.
This model is welcomed into the Garage. The detail is lovely (look at the way the exhaust is positioned at the rear) and in that smart grey metallic that makes it rather taut.
Couple of things I would have liked to have seen:
1) would have been good to have seen a sunroof added
2) Once again we see provision for Japanese plates, instead of European ones.
What I am interested to know is anyone out there does 1/64 number plate decals for Japanese cars and square plates. I have see this on ebay, which I need to investigate closely. Only snag would be that the model would be MOC’d rather than shop stock. But it could get interesting.
Getting back to the Golf, a good model and as I have mentioned before, the Garage needs diversity within especially from Europe.
