I was somewhat hopeful that we would get a result for this game – after all, we had two wins on the bounce and Carroll on fine form. The Payet Love Story is well and truly over.
The signings of Snodgrass and Fonte gave hope that we would get something here, but alas, it was another horror show.
The first half told the story – 69% possession from City and not enough adventure from us up front.
The normally bullet proof Cresswell squares a pass in the middle of the pitch and City take advantage, with De Bruyne slotting in nicely.
Four mins later it was 2-0, with Sane on the wing proving a handful and Silva scoring, Obiang giving the ball away cheaply. Fonte, on his debut, was not looking best pleased at all.
New boy Gabriel Jesus made it 3-0 and then to cap it all off, Sterling mugged Fonte as he gave away a penalty which Yaya Toure got in.
Nothing up front from the Hammers, midfield very quiet and the defence was shonky. Yup, we took another hammering by City who have scored in the region of 900 goals past us this season.
I really don’t have much else to say – West Ham were beaten by a very, very good side and Aguero was only on the bench! Antonio gave glimpses of hope, but today was not a good day at the office.
No doubt there will be calls for Slaven’s head, the board to be sacked and the London Stadium is a pile of manure.
Actually, we were soundly beaten by a superior side. It is as simple as that.
It is annoying that I cannot write more on the performance, but it was not a good one. And I will leave that there.
Southampton away next – bloody hell, we need something from this game.
